If we have elderly parents or neigbours its important to warn them criticise. Not everyone is as cynical about calls received. Wow I feel sorry for people who get scammed like this. They aren't into technology and they are often elderly, and they have no idea they are being scammed.
I get phone calls once every couple of weeks from BT or Microsoft offering to fix a problem that they have detected with my broadband connection or my PC, If I have the time, I will usually string them along for a few minutes by acting dumb and not understanding anything they are asking me to do. I don't know technology if it also happens to me, i cannot do anything.
