I get phone calls once every couple of weeks from BT or Microsoft offering to fix a problem that they have detected with my broadband connection or my PC, If I have the Jim Lahey I am the Liquor Christmas Shirt, I will usually string them along for a few minutes by acting dumb and not understanding anything they are asking me to do. To those out there worried about their computer. You can download a perfectly good antivirus for free - Microsoft defender. You can also switch off your laptop or computer/internet if this happens to you, cutting off their access to it.

ot a computer based one but recently got a call, answered and an automated message told me it was HMRC, that they believed I'd committed tax fraud. It aske me to press 1 on my phone, if I didn't, they'd put a warrant out for my arrest. Suffice to say I didn't press 1 and so far, no police. I also reported it to HMRC, because I knew it was a scam but someone else might get scared by the threat of police and go along with it.
