I know how to offer my arm to a blind person rather than grab theirs etc but so many people would just presume to be helping rather than think about what it entails. Wow, I can't believe people would have the nerve to just grab the Sixty and Sassy Shirt of someone's wheelchair and wheel them around without their permission. That is so presumptuous! Too many people have hero syndrome, it seems. As a wheelchair user I feel so validated reading this. I’ve had so many times people have tried to push my chair to help me without asking.
Oracle in DC comics used a chair without handles for that reason. I have a wheelchair bound son who loves her stories because she always talks about being independent. There is an entire comic centering on her feeling helpless despite being martial arts trained and able to fight from her chair because someone unexpectedly tries to push her chair and lectures her when she gets angry.
